Artemis Butterfly Ranunculus; shades of cool, yellow with a slight red brushstroke; Artemis is a very prolific bloomer with long stems. Single Butterfly blooms look delicate but last forever in a vase or bouquet. When all your spring pinks and blues are blooming add this sunny yellow ranunculus!

Pictures do not do these justice! These very hard to find Butterfly Ranunculus have a sheen and sparkle to their petals that doesn’t seem real. Delicate petals echo butterfly wings but are very resilient. These plants are twice as large as traditional Ranunculus and can produce up to 7 blooms on a multi stem spray. Blooms all spring. A Florist and Flower Farmer favorite Ranunculus are a very long lasting cut flower.

Butterfly Ranunculus are going to be the ‘IT’ flower for 2026. We expect to see tons of event and wedding arrangements featuring all the shades.

*HHF Tip: Butterfly corms are large! Pre-sprouting can take longer than Amandine corms. Be Patient! We allow for 3-4 weeks additional Sprouting time before transplanting Romance and Butterfly ranunculus.

🌿 What Are Butterfly Ranunculus?

Butterfly Ranunculus are a tissue-cultured Japanese variety created by Aya Engel Co. They are known for their wildflower style spray stems, each carrying multiple blooms. The single, semi-double flowers and double blooms have a unique, almost iridescent quality, making them perfect for bouquets and event work.

🔍 How Are They Different?

Clone Ranunculus: Tissue Culture, Lab-propagated for large, uniform blooms and disease resistance.

Half-Clone Ranunculus: Hybrid between seed and clone for balanced vigor.

Success & Elegance Ranunculus: Clone and Seed grown Italian varieties bred for larger, fuller blooms.

Amandine Ranunculus: Seed-grown, cold-hardy and adaptable.

Butterfly Ranunculus: Tissue Culture, Multi-blooming stems, lightweight flowers, and a softer, more natural appearance.

🌱 Butterfly Ranunculus Sprouting

The Butterfly series are tissue-cultured, leading to disease-resistant corms and a strong start during sprouting compared to seed-grown varieties. However, the large size of Butterfly corms means pre-sprouting can be slower and requires slightly different procedures to seed grown corms. Check out our Butterfly Ranunculus Tips and Tricks Blog.

🗓 Planting & Hardiness

Zones 7-10: Plant in fall for early spring blooms.

Zones 3-6: Plant in spring after the last frost.

Perennial in Zones 8-10; grown as an annual in colder regions.

HHF Tip:

Butterfly Ranunculus are slower to bloom and vulnerable to heat. Check out our blog to Extend your Season

We are in zone 7 at HHF we plant in Fall and very early spring to maximize our season March-June

Fall Planting: We pre-sprout and plant corms outside October-November and protect with frost cloth through the winter.

Spring Planting: We start corms inside January - February and transplant as soon as the ground thaws.

Why are Butterfly Ranunculus so expensive?

Butterfly ranunculus corms are expensive because the tissue culture process is labor-intensive, low-yield and takes three years. Many varieties are patent protected limiting production. This produces disease-free, florist-grade flowers with large blooms and long stems well worth the premium pricing.
